Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, is recalling 444 self-driving vehicles after two incidents in Phoenix, AZ where they hit the same towed pickup truck. The collisions, occurring in December, prompted a software update. Despite no injuries and low speeds, this marks Waymo’s first recall. Discussions with the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration ensued, leading to software updates between December 20, 2023, and January 12, 2024. Waymo had previously launched passenger-carrying robotaxis in Phoenix in late 2020.
